1136 Nelson St - West End Substation (DP-2025-00813) development review

Plans have been shared with the City of Vancouver so they have a clear picture of what is being built and how it could shape people's experience of the space. As a public utility, BC Hydro has the authority to develop infrastructure under the “Hydro and Power Authority Act” of BC.

BC Hydro has informed the City of Vancouver that it intends to develop the following on this site:

• A below grade substation building
• An above grade entrance of approximately 6 m in height
• Two air vents approximately 7.5 m in height
• Substation features developed in coordination with Vancouver School Board for a new elementary school
