The Director of Planning approved the application on March 6, 2024, subject to conditions.  A Development Permit may be issued once all conditions have been satisfied. For more information, please see the Prior-to letter under "Application documents"


Carscadden Stokes McDonald Architects Inc. has applied to the City of Vancouver for permission to develop an addition to the existing community centre (Sunset Community Centre), on this site, consisting of:

  • A Floor Space Ratio (FSR) of 0.05
  • A total proposed floor area of 24,362 sq.ft. (2,260 m²), including an 11,000 sq.ft. addition
  • A proposed building height of 18 ft. (5.5 m)
  • Surface parking, providing 69 parking spaces, having vehicular access from E 53rd Ave

Under the site’s proposed R1-1 zoning, the application is “conditional” so it may be permitted. However, it requires the decision of the Director of Planning.
