Join us for the launch of our international ideas competition: Vancouver Tall: Building Higher Downtown
On June 1, the City of Vancouver is launching an international ideas competition to inspire a ‘made-for-Vancouver' approach to taller buildings – one that emphasizes how buildings contribute to the public realm and support a vibrant, livable downtown.
You’re invited to an evening of conversation and reflection to kick off the competition. This launch event will explore what a distinctly Vancouver approach to building higher could look like, and will consider questions such as:
- What does it mean to build higher in Vancouver?
- How can these buildings enhance the public realm and contribute to a vibrant, livable city?
- How can building design reflect the values of this place?
Event details:
- Date: June 1, 2026
- Time: 7:00–8:30pm (Doors at 6pm)
- Location: Vancouver Playhouse, 600 Hamilton Street
This conversation will be moderated by Josh White, General Manager of Planning, Urban Design and Sustainability at the City of Vancouver. It will feature three local members of the competition jury reflecting on Vancouver’s evolving skyline and considerations for what comes next for building higher in downtown Vancouver.
