How is the City spending my tax dollars?
There are more than 80 public services that are funded through the budget, from public safety (fire and police) to engineering public works like sewer and water, to community services such as parks and recreation, arts and culture, libraries, social services
Does this impact my gas stove or fireplace?
No, this plan does not impact gas stoves or fireplaces. Relative to space heating and hot water, these gas appliances produce a much smaller fraction of a home’s overall carbon emissions. However, there are other non-emissions related reasons to consider a voluntary switch to electric appliances, such as human health impacts of gas stoves. Learn more at Switch it Up BC.
Where is the funding for these projects coming from
The projects are being funded by new permit revenue generated by the West End Parking strategy, implemented in 2017. We made the commitment to re-invest this additional revenue in the community through a participatory budgeting pilot.
Can you access Stanley Park from the Causeway entrances
Access to Stanley Park from the Causeway remains closed for the duration of the summer to at least September 21st.

How is the capital plan different from the budget?
The City conducts public engagement on the capital plan every four years. The capital plan identifies program priorities and specific projects to be completed in a four-year period. Public engagement on the City’s annual budget is conducted every year. This engagement focuses specifically on: The operating budget, which covers the day-to-day expenses required to deliver programs and services to residents e.g. garbage pickup, running libraries and community centres. The capital budget, which sets out how capital plan projects will be funded in that year.
