Work starts September 8 to create more space for people

Transportation and public realm upgrades to Davie Street between Jervis and Thurlow streets to start September 8.

Once complete, the project will create a more welcoming and accessible public realm, supporting businesses and making it easier for people to access shops and services in this busy commercial area.

Work will be sequenced to reduce impacts on businesses and the community. Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2028.

The project will celebrate Vancouver’s 2SLGBTQ+ community. The Heart of Davie sign will be relocated to a more prominent location on the street, and an Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride flag will be painted at the Bute and Davie intersection and at the new mid-block crossing in the 1100-block of Davie Street.

The project contributes to the City’s UNDRIP Action Plan by having greater visibility for the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil Waututh Nations in the public realm. Custom panels on new bus shelters and custom-designed tree grates will achieve this. Artists for these pieces are being shortlisted now.
