Portside Greenway
We are upgrading the Portside Greenway, a 7 km route following the city’s northern edge, spanning between Gastown and the city’s eastern boundary. The goal is to create a high quality, continuous route that prioritizes safe, comfortable walking, biking and rolling with great spaces along the way.
Portside has been identified in many plans over the years, including the Greenways Plan (1995) (PDF, 7.6 MB), Transportation 2040 (2012) and the Vancouver Plan (2022). It also supports key civic priorities including equity and climate action.
Next steps
Phase 1 of public engagement is now closed. Thank you to all who participated.
The input we received will be used to help develop design concepts for the greenway. There will be a chance to review the concepts in our next round of public engagement later this year.
A phase 1 engagement summary will be published and shared with community members.

Plazas
Have plazas along the way that allow people to set up a small lemonade stand or showcasing there personal art or the ability to play an instrument. Have a piano set up there along with picnic benches and lots of flowers and trees

Bike Tire Pumps!
Along the route specifically on Wall St. Have pumps cemented into the ground that can fill up bike tires and balls!

Two-way protected bike lane on Powell Street
Fill the greenway gap by turning one of the four lanes on Powell Street into a two-way protected bike lane. The only way to keep people from riding on the sidewalk is to give them a safe place to be where they want to go. It will also add space between the sidewalk and all the car traffic, making it nicer to walk. The bypass is too hilly, long, and confusing. Picture is from your information boards.

Connect Cambridge and Oxford Park across the street
Link Cambridge and Oxford parks across Wall Street. This would increase park space and reduce car traffic on the greenway at the same time. Let people walk and bike through with a nice path. You did a modal filter like this on Point Grey Road already. Show some love for the east side! Picture is the Point Grey Road example from your information boards.

A true AAA connection to Stanley Park
I'm hoping to be able to bike with my kid to Stanley park from East Vancouver. Currently Adanac is not suitable for all ages. Make sure that there are connections through gastown and to the lane.
