The City of Vancouver is proposing changes to the public views from the south shore beach at Trout Lake. These changes seek to balance maintaining the mountain views that are enjoyed by the public with the need for more housing near rapid transit.

This follows July 2024 Council direction, and new opportunities enabled through the Province's Transit-Oriented Areas (TOA) legislation, which sets minimum heights and densities around transit stations.

Council requests further review of the Trout Lake public views.

The recommended updates to the Trout Lake public views were presented to Council on February 4, 2026, as part of a broader package to streamline the City-wide Design and Development Guidelines (CDDG). Council requested further review of the Trout Lake public view changes and approved the remaining guideline updates. For more details on the CDDG updates, read the staff report.

Read the meeting minutes to learn more about the Council decision.

Next steps

Following the Council direction, staff will undertake further analysis of the Trout Lake public views. Any project updates will be shared on this page when they become available.
