Inclusive playground design survey

We want your help to make sure the playgrounds we build work well for all children, families, and caregivers.

The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation is creating new guidelines for designing inclusive playgrounds in parks across the city. These guidelines will also help us plan an inclusive destination playground at Memorial South Park. To learn more about the Inclusive Playground Design project, including key terms, project goals, and timeline, please visit our project page.

Inclusive play means people of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds can play together. It goes beyond basic accessibility requirements. Inclusive play looks at physical access, sensory experiences, social connection, and cultural inclusion. All children, caregivers, and community members should feel comfortable and able to join in.

This survey will ask about your experiences using playgrounds and what helps make them easy, welcoming, and enjoyable to use. Your feedback will help us design playgrounds that offer meaningful, fun play for all.Three colorful smiley faces. The survey will take about 10 to 15 minutes to fill out. You may go back to your previous answers at any time using the "Back" button at the lower left of each page.

Before starting, please ensure that you are using an updated version of your browser (Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari). If you encounter any problems and are able to take a screenshot or video of the issue, please email inclusiveplaygrounddesign@vancouver.ca.

We collect your personal information under section 26(e) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. This includes things like your opinion and demographic information. This information will be used for the development of Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation Inclusive Play Design Guidelines. It's important to us that we hear from a diverse group of people and perspectives. Demographic questions help us assess how the feedback we receive represents the community. Your responses will stay confidential and won't be shared in a way that identifies you. Your responses will be combined with others and summarized in a report. This report may also include short quotes from open-ended answers. Please don’t include personal details in any open-ended questions. As part of this engagement, the Park Board is partnering with PWL Partnership Landscape Architects Inc., and may be sharing the raw data from the results of this survey with them for research purposes. The shared data will include opinions you shared and demographic information you provided (which helps us understand who we have heard from, and any differences in results among groups of people). If you have any questions, you can email privacy@vancouver.ca.
