We are partnering with the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association (Downtown Van) to transform Granville Street into a vibrant pedestrian zone from June 11 to September 7, 2026.

The pedestrian zone advances the Granville Street Plan (PDF, 23.7 MB), approved by City Council in June 2025 with the vision to make Granville a people-first street. It will help inform potential future pedestrian zones on Granville Street and across Vancouver.

The pedestrian zone will feature new and expanded patios from Granville Street businesses and additional public seating as well as interactive installations and photo opportunities. Additional events, music and programming will be led by Downtown Van. To enable the pedestrian zone, buses will be re-routed to Howe and Seymour streets. Learn more about access and traffic impacts to Granville Street.

How to get involved

Take our survey to share your experience of the pedestrian zone.

Your input will help shape the long-term vision of the Granville Street Plan and potential future pedestrian zones on Granville Street and city-wide.

The survey will be open until Monday September 7, 2026.

Next steps

The City and Downtown Van will be collecting feedback and learnings on the pedestrian zone through public and business surveys, transportation and transit data, as well as input from partners.

Staff will review feedback and share an engagement summary in the fall. Staff will present the findings to Council late 2026 – early 2027.
