The City is planning for the future of Railtown.

City Council has asked us to explore opportunities for Railtown, and we’re getting started. This planning process will help guide the future of the area, and we’re looking for your input along the way.

Railtown is in the northern part of the Downtown Eastside, next to the Port of Vancouver and the rail yard. Railtown was originally developed as an industrial area, but over time it has become a hub for creative businesses and light industry.

We’re exploring ideas that could help the area thrive, such as:

  • More flexible spaces for businesses and jobs
  • Opportunities for housing
  • Additional spaces for artists

Public Input

Between November 12 and December 3, staff gathered public input through an online survey and community outreach. This feedback, along with technical studies, will help guide the policy directions of the area plan and shape the future of Railtown.

Thank you to everyone who filled out the survey and shared their feedback.

Next steps

We are currently reviewing community feedback and staff will share a summary of what we heard during this engagement period in early 2026. Sign up to our mailing list to stay updated on the project as the process moves forward.
