Help us shape how we commemorate in monuments, memorials, plaques and place names.

Statues, public art, memorials and public spaces that commemorate historical figures and events help tell a place's story. However, Vancouver’s existing monuments and names do not accurately reflect the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) or səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations’ unique rights and ongoing presence here, or a complete, accurate and equitable histories of this place.

This work is meant to bring commemorative practices in line with our commitments to prioritize the rights of Indigenous people, equity, cultural redress, anti-racism and accessibility.

A survey and mapping tool were open from Nov. 22 - Dec. 10, 2023. Thank you to everyone who participated.
